Special Events

The Office of Special Events and Filming is the bureau within the City Manager Department responsible for permitting all special events and film productions within the City of Long Beach. Our staff strives to provide year-round events to cultivate civic pride, social awareness and cultural enrichment for residents and visitors by permitting special event activities such as, festivals, runs / walks, and citywide holiday celebrations. By doing this, we help build a foundation that fosters sustainable community development, economic development and tourism. In addition, the Office of Special Events and Filming is responsible for all street closures pertaining to block parties, parades, filming and other events taking place in parks or on public property. We are also responsible for managing the Street Banner Program.

An event promoter works collectively with our friendly and knowledgeable staff, which will serve as the liaison to the City and assist with event permitting as it relates to the use of public property (e.g. Police, Fire, Public Works).

Some major events that help make the year an undeniable success include the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, which is the largest single event and street race held in the City, drawing over 300,000 for the three day event. The Office of Special Events and Filming also helps coordinate the Gay Pride Parade and Celebration, Long Beach Marathon, 2007 Amgen Tour of California, Jazz Festival, and the 2004 U.S. Olympic Swim Trials.

Being one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the country, Long Beach is the perfect choice for all things cultural, for all things entertainment.  We are fortunate to host an assortment of annual cultural events (Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade and Celebration, Cambodian New Year Parade & Celebration, Juneteenth, Cinco de Mayo) that help attract approximately 5.5 million visitors to the City annually. Each of these events helps contribute to the liveliness, quality of life and character of our great city!
